Join the AEngD. The EngD is a doctorate, equivalent to a PhD. However, the EngD student - or research engineer RE - pursues a research project while based within a company. The EngD is a qualification for practising researchers who aim to lead and innovate the development of products, processes and services in industry; REs develop academic strengths and leadership skills, both technical and managerial.
The company commits itself to support the research project over the duration of a four-year EngD programme , and releases the RE to attend taught course modules. It provides ambitious and able students with the technical, business and personal development competencies needed to become the senior research managers of the future. Unlike a traditional PhD, the EngD is focused on industry-based research. It focuses on developing new and enhanced manufacturing techniques within the forming and forging sectors.

An Industrial Doctorate is an industrially-focused three-year equivalent research project and PhD education, conducted jointly by a private sector company, an Industrial PhD candidate and the University of Strathclyde. The Industrial PhD candidate is employed by the company throughout the time they are enrolled at the University, with the employer covering the fees.
