Even when I turned on the hidden option to scan for rootkits, it left some rootkits running. Comodo's malware blocking score was excellent, though tarnished by its high incidence of false positives in my testing with PCMag utilities. I didn't invoke GeekBuddy help for each individual malware sample. Doing so would have taken an impossibly long time, and in any case Comodo scored quite well without GeekBuddy.
I tested Comodo Internet Security on twelve malware-infested test systems to see. To start, I simply ran a full scan. At the end of a scan with the free firewall or antivirus, a window pops up offering GeekBuddy support. If you say yes to the offer, you're asked to pay. I was a bit surprised that the full suite, with GeekBuddy support included, didn't make any such offer.
The scan results window does include a link to "Chat with a Certified Technician. Malware prevented installation of the suite on one test system. On that system I installed GeekBuddy separately, activated it with the suite's registration key, and got full-scale remote assistance to fix the installation. The time required to hook up with an expert varied wildly, from almost instantaneous to well over an hour.
The experts were uniformly polite and uniformly male. At least, all of them had the same red-shirted guy for an avatar, and all displayed standard Western male names. In every case I allowed the GeekBuddy agent to take remote control of the system. They all examined the list of threats found by the suite. Some of them dug into the file system and Registry, checking for other traces of the found items. Some examined all running processes or dug into the list of programs that launch at startup.
Others just hit the big Clean button, poked around a bit, and declared the system malware-free. On four systems the agents with my permission ran a scan using Comodo Cleaning Essentials free, 4. One agent spent over four hours working on a system where malware prevented the suit from working properly. Would this be better than Avira though? I am not very enthusiastic about security software anyways. I prefer being secure on my own. Is this x86 only? Or can guys install this in x64 win 7 too..?
I forgot this question: Do I have to uninstall , before run installer?? Like updating that to ? Very nice information of security software is given by you. Comodo is however premium protection while AVG you have may be a free one. Notify me of follow-up comments by email. Notify me of new posts by email. Antivirus Detects, blocks and removes viruses, found on personal computers and networks.
Provides continuous protection by scanning in real-time access to the system. Automatically and daily updates of virus database. Firewall settings are straightforward, as well, with checkboxes and drop-down menus for setting application rules, global rules, network zones, port sets and more. The malware settings for enabling the Host Intrusion Protection System have many options that are easy to set by using the row of checkboxes. We use impartial third-party labs to evaluate the level of protection offered by antivirus software.
One of them is AV-Test. Its test results for Comodo Internet Security are interesting. Comodo Internet Security achieved a score of percent for protection against zero-day malware attacks, including web and email attacks. It also scored percent when detecting widespread malware discovered in the four weeks prior to being tested. The combined scores earned it a perfect 6 out of 6. It took a hit in performance, though, earning a 5 out of 6 because it slowed down the PC when launching popular websites and standard software.
Download and installation of applications was slower than the industry standard, too, as was file copying. We saw a noticeable slowdown on our system when launching software or copying files to the disk.
When it came to false warnings, Comodo Internet Security registered false detections of legitimate software as malware during a system scan. We noticed that, too. When we ran a full system scan on our test machine, which took an hour and 10 minutes, it reported that GIMP, a popular image manipulation program, was a threat.
We use GIMP to crop pictures, add text to them, change their colors, etc. Another third-party lab we use is AV-Comparatives , but after looking through test results dating back to February , we found no record of Comodo Internet Security taking part in its testing. That being the case, we decided to do hands-on testing. During the full-system scan we performed, it found EICAR files on our hard drive, which are used for malware testing. The use of these files has been universally agreed upon by the antivirus industry as a standardized way to test the functionality of antivirus software.
Once the scan was done, Comodo Internet Security required us to identify each file we wanted to add to the trusted file list. When we began live testing with EICAR files from the Anti-Malware Testing Standards Organization website we use for our in-house testing, Comodo Internet Security protected us from downloading malware, drive-by downloads, potentially unwanted applications and on the cloud. When we tried to download compressed software that was infected, Comodo Internet Security failed 9 out of 11 tests.
Comodo Internet Security allows you to add extensions, such as. After we added those extensions to its list and tried downloading the infected compressed files again, it caught them. In addition to their products for desktop computers, Comodo makes a mobile app for iOS and Android. Compared to their desktop counterparts, the Comodo Mobile Security apps work fairly well. In particular, they offer a VPN and an identity theft protection service.
Comodo offers an online knowledge base for their products. When I encountered challenges while testing Comodo software, I looked through their support website. On the other hand, the article about the virtual desktop feature was informative, even if it didn't help me install the components. While Comodo Antivirus is available for the low price of free, it does not compete very well with other options, especially the ones mentioned on our best antivirus list.
Throughout my testing of Comodo Internet Security, I found lots of red flags. The Linux version may not have been updated since Scanning occurred even when the software was disabled, locking up my computer. Most importantly, few independent security labs have evaluated its performance. Norton Antivirus review : not just good, but great antivirus for anyone. Kaspersky review : good performance, but can you trust this antivirus? ESET review : one of the safest antivirus, but is it worth the price?
Vipre Antivirus review : decent protection for Windows devices.
